Simple City Broke My Heart in a way is a culmination of everything I’ve wanted to express about trauma, toxic masculinity and my upbringing, artistically — initially I thought the project would solely revolve around gentrification and it’s impacts on impoverished DC communities (a topic which weighs heavy on my heart and still will be present), but after the murder of my cousin I’ve since decided to refocus it on THE PEOPLE. Those who will live their whole lives and die on blocks they don’t own.

It’s important to me to let the work speak for itself whether through expired film, brand new Ektachrome or studio work on a digital camera, the most important aspect of my work capturing emotions in motion.
